Hellenic Cooperative Oncology Group (HeCOG)

The Hellenic Cooperative Oncology Group (HeCOG) is a not-for-profit scientific organization, representing the largest network of clinical cancer research in Greece. Consisting primarily of medical oncologists, pathologists, and biomedical scientists, the group’s primary mission is to promote clinical and translational cancer research both locally and internationally. HeCOG is an active participant in international networks, such as the European Network of Gynecological Oncology Trials (ENGOT), the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) and the Breast International Group (BIG). Through these partnerships, HeCOG contributes to global initiatives in cancer research and brings international expertise to local efforts. During its 35-year presence, HeCOG has conducted numerous clinical studies, contributing significantly to the advancement of international cancer research.

Role

HeCOG, in collaboration with the Project Coordinator and Dr. Evangelia Razis, who serves as the national coordinator for Greece, will oversee and coordinate its affiliated clinical sites in Greece. As a clinical partner, HeCOG will play a pivotal role in the work packages focused on the setup and execution of the clinical trial.

Evangelia Razis

Evangelia Razis, MD, PhD
Dr. Razis is a medical oncologist and currently serves as the Director of the 3rd Oncology Department at Hygeia Hospital in Athens, Greece. Dr. Razis studied in Northwestern University’s six-year Honors Program in Medical Education leading to a Medical degree in 1987.
She completed a medical residency at Beth Israel Medical Center, and a Medical Oncology Fellowship at New York Medical College/Westchester County Medical Center. Upon her return to Greece, she joined Hygeia Hospital as an attending physician while pursuing a Ph.D and eventually became Director of the 3rd Oncology Department. In the spring of 2016, under her leadership, the department became the first international practice to receive Quality certification from the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and again in 2024 the first International Practice to become ASCO Certified under ASCO’s new Quality Program.

With a strong commitment to education, Dr. Razis delivers numerous lectures annually and mentors physicians in specialized training. She chaired the Educational commitee of the European Association for NeurOncology (EANO) through which she conceived and established the EANO School for NeuroOncology. She is also part of ESMO’s CNS faculty and part of the ASCO annual meeting program committee. Her dedication extends to global humanitarian efforts, having volunteered in Sudan, Sri Lanka, Honduras, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, and Kefalonia, Greece. Her primary research interests focus on Breast Cancer and Neuro-oncology.
Dr. Razis is an active member of HeCOG’s (Hellenic Cooperative Oncology Group) scientific committee. She also serves on the executive board of the Breast International Group (BIG) and of EANO and co-chairs BIG’s brain metastases task force and is active in EORTC’s Breast Cancer and Brain Tumor Groups. Furthermore, she is a member of the guidelines’ committee of EANO and ASCO’s communication guidelines task force.
